Microsoft launches Skype Lite at Future Decoded; gets SBI, Flipkart, and Tata Motors on it’s Cloud

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, flew down to deliver speech at the company’s digital tech event. He announced the launch of Skype Lite for mobile platforms. With Skype Lite one can communicate over a 2G network.

Mumbai, India – Microsoft exhibited its mobile and cloud technologies at its Future Decoded event. These technologies are bringing about a digital transformation in businesses across the whole country. Now, State Bank of India, Tata Motors, and Flipkart have signed up for Microsoft Cloud. Not even these companies, but the government of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh have started using Microsoft’s mobile and cloud technologies to provide their services to the citizens.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, flew down to deliver speech at the company’s digital tech event. He announced the launch of Skype Lite for mobile platforms. With Skype Lite one can communicate over a low-bandwidth network. Also, we would see Aadhaar integration into the app by the month of June this year. The signing up of SBI for using Office365 was too announced by Nadella. Next in the mention was the productivity app “Kaizala” that would let users get work done through a simple chat interface. It would double up as an IM app and collaboration portal.

Satya Nadella said, “At Microsoft, we aim to empower every Indian and every Indian organization to achieve more. With the transformative power of the cloud, we are enabling Indian start-ups, businesses of all sizes, and government agencies to build new digital capability, find new growth and seize the opportunities ahead.”

Skype Lite is the smallest and fastest app built by Microsoft till date and has been especially designed for India so that network problems don’t create a challenge for collaborative work. Apart from Hindi and English, the app will be available in many regional languages.

He also mentioned about creating a learning platform that would use the best of its cloud technologies and job search capabilities of LinkedIn. This would be called as “Project Sangam” and will aim to fill the gap between skills and jobs of the aspirants of the country.

Skype Lite is already available for download from Play Store. Government of Andhra Pradesh has already announced to use Kaizala for implementing real-time governance.
