Movie Review, ‘The Hobbit’- The Battle of the Five Armies

The Hobbit which is a master piece by J. R. R. Tolkien is brought to the screens as a visual treat by Peter Jackson and transfers the audiences in to the middle earth where it all happens. The three part series of The Hobbit is finished with technical and visual brilliance and even though the screenplay and storytelling was little complex the movie is mind-blowing and will come out a box office success. The cast makes your eyes go star studded with some of Hollywood’s finest. Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Martin freeman reprises as the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, Cate Blanchet, Evangeline Lilly, Hugo Weaving and the charming Orlando Bloom as Legolas all reprise their roles from the Hobbit’s previous venture.

“The Battle of the Five Armies” starts from exactly the finale of its previous installment “The Desolation of Smaug” Where the Dragon (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) is chased away from the lonely mountain decides to destroy the village of Laketown but during the destruction the smaug is killed by Bard played by Luke Evans. Bard is then chosen to lead the Laketown.

Meanwhile, Thorin the leader of the dwarves played by Richard Armitage becomes paranoid with dragon sickness and becomes power hungry and mad in search of the Arkenstone. Gandalf is rescued and comes to lonely mountain. The romantic triangle between Kili, Tauriel and Legolas just fades away with time. Bard joins hand with an elf army headed by Thranduil to share the wealth of the Lonely Mountain but still the psychotic Thorin because a huge army of dwarves led by his cousin also assemble on the foothills of Erebor.

Orc armies of massive proportions approach the lonely mountain and all hell is about to break loose with the three armies of elves, men and dwarves already in pre-war mode. But with Gandalf and Bilbo’s assistance all of them combine to fight against the Orcs who still outweigh them with huge numbers. Thorin finally comes out of the mysterious disease and decides to aid his friends in the battle. Thorin to put an end to this war decides to go and kill Azog the Orc leader and scatter them but Thorin is going into a trap because Azog has called for huge reinforcements knowing this Bilbo, Legolas and Tauriel decide to warn Thorin and his crew but they get ambushed.

Finally with some extravagant climax action sequences with intense emotions floating around the movie comes to an end with Thorin taking the fall killing the Orc leader and Bilbo returns home with Gandalf. Sauron is now made powerless for the time being without the ring and Gandalf acknowledges that the ring was with Bilbo the whole time and he advises him to not succumb to it.

Peter Jackson tells this tale with maximized action and minimized story telling where many complex alliances and love sequences becomes boring and complicated but still the technical and graphic team involved should be appreciated with a whole heart because of the null errors executed visually. This final battle and the end of the hobbit is surely a must watch and it won’t be a disappointing affair for the fans and the audiences who are also not fans of the book.

This movie will surely hop into the Oscar race for its VFX work involved and with its minimal flaws and the least favorite of all the hobbit installments it will surely boom at the World Box office.
