Google’s Global Forest Watch (GFW) Can Keep Track Forest Covered Area

Google's Global Forest Watch (GFW) that can keep track of all the forest covered area in the world

We know that Google comes up with new products regularly to attract more and more web users. But this time, the story is slightly different. Google wants to carve a niche for itself as a corporation with great values to fight indiscriminate deforestation. It has launched a platform named “Global Forest Watch” (GFW) that can keep track of all the forest covered area in the world and help in protecting it.

This application was launched by Google along with World Resources Institute (WRI) and 40 other partners including Global Forest Watch Canada to help in the preservation of forests worldwide. It is a dynamic online forest monitoring system which is updated regularly. Instead of a census which is taken after several years, this platform helps in continuous monitoring of the forests and act accordingly.

This platform uses the NASA images coupled with Google’s advanced technology and applications to detect deforestation. It helps people to know what is going on in the forests around them and also help in improving the honesty of companies that supply raw materials obtained from forests, as they can’t show false data when this platform is accessible to the public.
