Former Gangster Releases Another Novel “Virula: Renaissance Outlaw”

This is not the first time a formal gangster has written a novel. Roy Albert Andrade has released another title “VIRULA: RENAISSANCE OUTLAW” recounting his real life experiences. His previous book “CULTIVATING THE DNA OF CRIME” was a fiction novel based on his real experience of gang world actions and adventures. Andrade’s conversations with his former inmates as to what led them to committing crimes pushed him to write and thus he became a passionate writer. The story revolves around Virula (Andrade himself) and his experiences being a gang member, drug dealer and ex-convict. There are very few writers on the block who are able to write stories capable of captivating reader’s mind with its deep knowledge as well as involvement through and through. Well, Andrade is one of them and has woven a story that captures the reality.

Virula drops out of high school and becomes a gang member. Life has been hard for him, but he knows how to get around the situations. The gang of his, exploits his courage and is able to keep him rooted to it by fulfilling his desire for drugs and women. The main incident of the story happens in Los Angeles on the eve of Father’s day, when he is dragged away into surreal 24 hours by a heavy dose of hallucinogens. But this is a common part of his life. Though very enlightening, VIRULA: RENAISSANCE OUTLAW is also a love story! Above all, this offbeat realistic story lends an eye-opening perspective to view the gang world and crimes. Truly compelling and entertaining, the book will leave readers asking for a sequel.

Born in Pacoima, California, Andrade was only 12 when he was persuaded to join the gang with a promise of protection against rival gangs and other bullies. This city then was divided into a number of Latino gangs which called themselves as “families.” Andrade, who had no such family structure, joined one of them.

It’s been 28 years that Andrade began his gangster life and even now the city is infested with gangs. Over 40 gangs are still operating in full force and murders, kidnappings, gambling, drug dealings and robberies are a common scene.

Andrade was initially named as “Bandit” by his fellow gangsters. Later given the moniker “Killer”, he used to carry a 22-caliber pistol. San Fernando Valley of California soon came to know about “Killer” and his gang activities eventually led to his arrest. After serving a brief period of incarceration, Andrade was released. Most of his prison time was spent in interviewing his inmates about their crimes and reasons behind them. This gave rise to his passion for writing and he later graduated from University of Phoenix, Arizona.

These interviews are reflected in his first book CULTIVATING THE DNA OF CRIME which came out in May, 2014. Andrade released VIRULA: RENAISSANCE OUTLAW earlier this year in March. Apart from writing books, Andrade runs his companies – k1ller Publishing Co. and K1ller Inc. He has also established a foundation by the name of “The K1ller Foundation” to keep American youth away from the crime world.

Roy Albert Andrade says the reason behind his success is the path of education he has chosen. With his books he looks forward to fulfill his quest to persuade today’s youth to not to adopt the path of crime. Andrade’s books are available as ebooks on iTunes or can be purchased from Barnes & Noble, Amazon and others. In Andrade’s coming four books in the same series, we’ll see Virula as the protagonist. He plans to complete this series of six novels reflecting crime as he keeps striving to persuade youth not to travel down the wrong path. The then 12 year old “Killer” has certainly accomplished much.
