Microsoft India’s Cloud Services launched by CM

This Tuesday Microsoft India’s LCS (local cloud services) was launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai. The services were launched from Mumbai, Chennai and Pune’s state-of-the-art data centers. CM said many of the digital services will be hosted using Microsoft’s local cloud services. The services that will be hosted include applications, Citizen Services and other government initiatives launched for increasing prosperity, productivity and efficiency of government. Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella had promised that India will have commercial cloud services by the end of this year, but launched the services well ahead of the deadline

These services are expected to play an important in accelerating the initiative of Digital India and handling large amounts of data. This would further help in seeding innovation through new applications. Cloud services will boost government schemes as well as billing services in terms of accessibility, efficiency and delivery. Cloud computing along with analytics and data storage can provide easier access to shared resources. Enterprises as well as individual users get many features for storing and processing data using third party data centres.
“Microsoft Cloud in India will transform the way computing is done in the country. The hyper-scale cloud will empower governments, businesses and users with better computing power to support their workloads,” said Bhaskar Pramanik, Chairman Microsoft India. Some of the LCS’s objectives include providing facility of digital locker that can be used for providing a safe storage space for documents concerning property, personal information and education. This will contribute to making digital identity applicable anywhere across the country and would allow government to provide quick services to the citizens. Apart from this the services will also serve business, professional and academic objectives.
A senior official of IT Department said, “Storing large amounts of data or accessing a bigger set of data with proper analysis will get cheaper and faster. Cheaper servers can thus be hired locally to offer better speed to entrepreneurs, students and corporates with accuracy, security and transparency.”
