Nationwide MNP enabled by the Indian Government; starting July 3

The Indian telecom operators like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Rcom and others including the state funded operators like BSNL and MTNL have announced that starting on July 3, the customers will be able to retain their phone numbers while they are away anywhere in the country. As of now, if a person leaves his or her home city, then they have to pay the roaming charges and are billed according to that. The STD rates are pre-determined and other charges including messages and Internet are billed accordingly. However, now all of this will be a thing of the past as the government has shown the green signal to national Mobile number portability.

Now, if you’re shifting cities, you will still be able to keep your contact number. The telecom Operators have initiated MNP tariff plans to lure the customers to them. Other private companies like Uninor, SistemaShyam Teleservices etc. will also start the service as soon as possible in order to meet the government’s deadline of July 3. The best thing about this is that the national MNP service enables the user to switch his or her contact number from one telecom operator to another without any change in the number.

Airtel announced that its customers can enjoy special offers like processing requests to port within Aritel’s network within 24 hours and avail free incoming on roaming until the portability request is processed. Vodafone, in an official statement said,” Customers looking for convenience of retaining their existing number at the new location can avail the benefits of national MNP service.”  Another telecom giant, Idea has enabled the national MNP services for the users across the country. Idea has also been the leader of gain in customers through the intra-circle MNP service. Sitting at 14 million net gains of customers, they are at the top. A representative from Uninor said that the company is ready for national MNP service and has upgraded its backend IT and network infrastructure to ensure a smooth implementation. MTS also welcomed the move and said that the company is fully geared up to comply with the deadline and offer the services to the customers.

Currently, India has been divided into 22 telecom zones and the intra MNP services enables the customers to change their telecom operators but for the same city. The new service has expanded it to the whole country which could be very useful for the people especially for those who travel for work and jobs.
