Android version of WhatsApp gets a Material Design makeover

WhatsApp has finally been given a Material Design makeover which many users feel has been long overdue. The new version named WhatsApp version 2.12.44 has a deep green colored title bar. There are three tabs for chats, contacts and calls. There are new voice message recording option and a pop up button for attachment. There are all new animations and some changes in the UI. Android users of WhatsApp can now make phone calls over the app without needing to be called first. The layout is crisper and profiles have large cover images. The screen for sharing photos and videos look much sharper and brighter too. The bad news is, the material design update is not available in the Google play store yet. The apk file needs to be downloaded off WhatsApp’s official website.

WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook for $21 billion, and now Facebook and WhasApp is testing out how they can integrate. The “share” button has been added but is only available for Facebook beta testers. This feature allows a Facebook user to share news and content with WhatsApp users.
