At the Mobile World Congress, you will find Summit Tech showcasing an RCS-based Home Automation and Home Security System. This is to enable mobile operators to bridge a $16.4 billion market by 2019. This system can be provided by mobile operators as part of their current IMS services. Customers can use this RCS-based system on an RCS enabled phone without downloading anything or setting up new profiles. Customers can just activate the service with their current mobile operator. Before the introduction of this system by Summit Tech, the problems encountered in creating such a system were complexity of competing standards and the risk of vendor lock-in. This particular system has overcome these problems and Summit Tech has ensured that this system will work with standards such as ZigBee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, and WiFi.
The phone in which this service has been enabled will be able to detect other Home Automation devices and display the tabs directly on the screen. Summit Tech has also attempted a collaborative venture with CentraLite Systems, which is widely experienced in designing and developing connected products, so that customers can easily control their connected home devices through their RCS smart phones.
There are very few examples of similar systems currently and the reasons are – it is very difficult to bring Home Automation and Home Security on to a single platform, it requires active system monitoring, and its call center requirement. Hence, even for customers, Home Security is not given a lot of importance in Home Automation Systems.
It is very important that consumers be provided with simple and compatible apps; not a number of different apps performing different parts of the same function. With this new system introduced by Summit Tech, mobile operators can provide an extremely simplified Home Automation and Security System.
