Google signed a lease for Navy air base & Google has plans to renovate the three massive hangars & use them further in the projects: aviation, space & robotics. And Google has one more lease for another portion on the former air base which Google wish to develop it into its second campus. Google founders Larry Page & Sergey Brin used the Moffett runways for their private jets collection, which is severely criticized by some groups.
Through this lease Google will pay $1.16 billion rent for about 60 years. And this lease site is about 1,000 acres & it was a part of former Moffett Field Naval Air Station on the San Francisco Peninsula, which is located a few miles away from the main campus of the company in Mountain View. As per NASA statement: Google in-addition to renovating the hangers it has plans to improve a museum or educational facility which will exhibit the history of Moffett & Silicon Valley. And the hangers will be further used by the Google’s subsidiary: Planetary Ventures LLC for its research, development, assembly & testing in space exploration, aviation, rover or robotics & other emerging technologies.
