IPL 7, Finals: Kolkata Knight Riders take home the trophy

The Kolkata Knight Riders became the champions of Indian Premier league for the second time. This has made them another successful IPL team alongside the Chennai Super Kings. KKR won the title by three wickets against Kings XI Punjab. This was one of the high scoring finals of all the season and the second victory for Knight Riders in three years. Manish Pandey managed to pull 94 off 50 balls, helping KKR chase a goal of 200. Despite of the Kings’ numbers of late strikes; Knight Riders took the game home with spare 3 balls and 3 wickets. This is Kolkata’s 9th victory of this season. The only other team that claims to have multiple IPL trophies is the Chennai Super Kings.

The KXIP lost the toss and batted first with match winners including Virendra Sehwag, George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell and David Miller. But four of them could only manage to score a 9. Rather it was Wriddhiman Saha who raised the score with a whooping 155 of 55 balls. Altogether Punjab had a score of 199/4. And the rest of the game too saw the flop of big names. Neither Sunil Narine, nor Robin Uthappa could make a good score for KKR. Eventually Piyush Chawla did the job. After Pandey got out in the 17th over, it seemed like Kolkata left the desire for chasing. They somehow managed to stay around the run rate of 10 per over, but still fell short of 13 runs from 10 balls. Mitchell Johnson did have a chance to claim 3 wickets for KXIP’s maiden IPL victory but he reverted. Piyush Chawla took advantage of his short ball and hit a six that brought down the equation by a large factor.
