Rumours has it that yahoo is thinking about bringing out a rival to YouTube and so we may see some YouTube talent poaching. Since the time YouTube started from scratch, it has a reached at a great height of success and popularity. There has not been a serious competition to this video and music giant in years. After yahoo failed to takeover DailyMotion, it is thinking of coming out with its own platform for music and video. According to some reports, it has even approached top YouTube talent. The top YouTube stars might abandon sight for money benefits as they might be offered greater revenue and consistent ad rates by yahoo. But, the latter approach is not a good strategy since most of us are using adblock.
Yahoo can think of giving them some home page real estate for marketing themselves and take services of yahoo’s sales force for advertising. Outside YouTube there is no competition in the field of video and yahoo knows that it needs to show some growth. So even if it could get a small number of top YouTube content creators, the benefit would be huge. But this talent snatching won’t be so easy. Yahoo is also thinking of tapping other potential areas for growth such as online streaming of the videos, games etc. but, Google won’t let someone takeover it like that.
