Facebook has been reportedly said to be working on its own anonymity app inspired by already so popular other such apps like Whisper and Secret. According to reports form Re/code, Facebook has met with Secret for the same. However there are no reports of any acquisition. The rumour that Facebook is planning to buy Secret for $100 million has been put down by two people involved in this matter. The rumour probably sparked off following the Facebook’s aggressive acquisition strategy that it is following these days.
Whatsapp was recently acquired by Facebook for $19 billion followed by an acquisition of oculus VR for $2 billion. Reports say that Secret, Whisper and Facebook are interested in knowing the types of conversations in which people like to engage freely without having to identify themselves. People sometimes like to speak without being known; perhaps they are able to express themselves better that way. With this report it also followed that Facebook might launch certain apps which do not require you to give permissions for accessing your profile and thus can be used without giving your real name and other profile stats. If this is true, Facebook might succeed Secret, Yik – Yak and Whisper.
