Airtel strikes again on Jio by giving 30 GB free data to postpaid users

When you open the My Airtel app, you will see a message asking you to claim the surprise gift. Once you tap on message, it shows a confirmation saying that you will get 10 GB free data per month for 3 months.

The Rise of Reliance Telecom’s Jio has been meteoritic, it has been able to build a strong presence as a mobile service provider thanks to the free data and call schemes that they launched. Even though most of the schemes are coming to an end on March 31st, Jio is still promising to provide services to customers at minimal cost.

But other service providers are also trying their best to gain lost ground; especially Airtel. Airtel promised its post paid users a surprise and it came on the day of Holi, March 13th. Airtel offered most of its post paid users 30 GB free data for a period of 3 months, with 10 GB being available every month. The offer was sent out through the My Airtel App. The app is available at the Play Storwe and can be downloaded by any Airtel user.

When you open the app, you will see a message asking you to claim the surprise gift. Once you tap on message, it shows that each month additional 10GB data will be available to you. The service will then be activated and you will receive a SMS as confirmation. The offer comes right after a major overhaul of its plans. Airtel has just come up with some plans for a select group of pre paid users and also made some big changes to the Infinity Plans for postpaid users.

The new offer from Airtel seems to be an attempt to sideline Jio Prime which provides 1 GB data per day to users and a total of 28 GB per month given that the user has subscribed to the Jio Prime membership at Rs 99/year. The last date of subscription is 31st March. After the onetime subscription, Jio users will get 1 GB data at the cost of about Rs 10/day. So, competitors will have to think on their feet and do something about their own rate if they don’t want to lose a big chunk of their consumers to Jio. It seems that by offering 10 GB data per month for free for the next three months, Airtel is attempting to retain those customers who might have an inclination to switch over to Jio before 31st March.
