Guess what is going to be the Oculus Rift’s launch title? Well it Elite: Dangerous from Frontier Development. Even though the title sounds abit out of line, both the Oculus Rift and Frontier Development have confirmed that the game will be available exclusively on the virtual reality headset. The headset is due for release on 28th march.

Oculus first broke the news on its official blog announcing that a Rift compatible version of the Elite: Dangerous will be made available and it will be cross – compatible with console, Mac and PC users. This confused the existing users if they would have to re-buy the Oculus compatible game.
The community manager Zac Antonaci cleared the confusion saying, “Before the Oculus launch we will be releasing an updated Elite Dangerous build which will contains support for the latest Oculus SDK, available at no additional charge. All of the existing and future customers that have an Oculus Rift consumer headset will be able to use it. For our existing and future players who wish to migrate over to the Oculus Store, they will be able to get a free code from the Frontier Store (as they do with Steam keys currently).”
Some others were concerned if the game would run on the older versions of the headset. So, the good news is that the game will still work with the older editions of the headset. The game will even work with HTC Vive. The Space Simulator from Frontier Development is compatible with both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Both the headset and the game will be released together on 28th March for $599.
