Indo-Australian startup Wiksate changing social and informal learning

A study conducted has shown an increase in the reverse migration of the NRI professionals coming back to India and creating their own businesses with skills learned overseas. In the same wake, a team of 4 NRIs from Australia have come back to India in order to start a company that aims at improving learning experience and development. CEO of Wiksate, Girish Gopalakrishnan said, “I was Director of Education Technology in State Government of Victoria in Australia and I could see that making social and informal learning mainstream could add tremendous value to the development of a learner. With this vision, we started Wiksate in 2013, and now students of about 80 colleges use Wiksate.” Some of the eminent institutions using Wiksate include BMS College of Bangalore and Pune Vidyarthi Griha and Cummins College of Pune.

Wiksate provides a social learning platform for bringing in collaborative learning to the students. Nilesh Gadre, CMO of Wiksate said, “McCall’s 70:20:10 model clearly describes importance of Social and Experiential learning. We impart 10% knowledge in the class room, but there is no mechanism to capture the other 90% and showcase your learning and knowledge networks in an objective manner. It is the Social and the Experiential aspects of learning that create well rounded individuals and make them employable. This is totally lacking in the Indian educational context.”

Wiksate provides a whole new way in which students engage with faculty, fellow students and experts and to build upon what they have already learned. Wiksate uses algorithms for generating analytics which help in empowering corporates and academic institutes.
