Facebook and WhatsApp to be monetized cautiously

Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Facebook and WhatsApp are going to have similar monetization as the news feed and Facebook.Considering the user base of both the social media networks, the investors around the world were looking forward to get permissions for advertising. WhatsApp and Facebook collectively have around seven hundred million registered users and could prove to be a major platform in order to reach out to the general public and advertise products. After the announcement, various potential advertisers became excited and will now be entering into talks with the company.

Mark Zuckerberg said,” If you go back to 2006 and 2007, there were a lot of people that were encouraging us to just put banner ads and inorganic content into the experience. And what we decided was that over the long term, the ads and monetization would perform better if there was an organic interaction between the people using the product and the businesses.” To make this real, the company introduced pages which would allow the companies to create their own presence on Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp for free.  Probably, the best thing about these pages is that it will allow the users to choose their desired businesses by subscribing them to their News Feed posts and even offered analytics to the company to know about their impact in the social media pages.”

Facebook is taking a very cautious and detailed approach towards monetization and insists that it does not want to ruin the Facebook experience for the users. Mark explained that once the users get used to the news feeds of the businesses, Facebook will then let the companies pay them so that their sponsored stories can reach the desired audience. Facebook will allow the use of Newsfeed ads, that are flexible and even provides auto play video ads which is a new feature and has been introduced recently. This strategy can be understood as putting up paid commercials and flashy banners on the site will only deter the Facebook experience and people might even stop using it. This can be simply understood as the strategy to reach as many people as possible at first and then start making money out of it.

Facebook has also announced its extension plans for Internet.org and is likely to press more towards. Recently it was reported that they have developed a full-scale drone which is capable of flying at, 60,000 feet above the ground at night and 90,000 feet during the day. This drone will be used to provide internet to the entire world as a part of the mission to provide basic internet to everybody.
