Ask Google how much your solar panels will save

Google is now helping individuals and businesses in the assessment of how much they would save with solar panels. The company has started a new service for people that will help them to instantly estimate how much they will be saving with a roof of solar panel above their office, house etc. To estimate the savings Google will make use of its satellite imagery and the latest technology in artificial intelligence. This type of a service would be great for people who are puzzled whether to go for solar power or not. Google revealed Project Sunroof on Monday, a tool that calculates your home’s solar power potential using the same high resolution aerial photos that are used by Google Earth to map the planet. The service creates a 3-D model of your roof and estimates how much sun will hit those solar panels during the year and how much the solar panels will end up saving for you over the next two decades. In order to analyze the image of your roof, the service also uses Google’s deep neural networks to isolate your roof from the surrounding features like the trees or shadows.

Google’s Joel Conkling said,” People search all the time to search for solar power. But it would be much more helpful if they could learn whether their particular roof is a good fit.” The project creator, Carl Elkins lives in Boston and has solar panels, and he once volunteered with solarizes Massachusetts to promote solar power in the State area. Although this is not the first service in this genre and companies like Geostellar and Mapdwell have created similar services, but this one has Google backing it. Many people believed that the time is ripe for this service as solar power is cheaper than ever and people can also take well informed decisions with the help of the service. This is not the first time that Google has done something to shift the focus on solar panels and solar power. It has a long history or promoting and advocating solar power. Google has also been investing in solar power projects and has been constantly expanding their use of solar power to power their data centers. Google believes that the service will help many people and also encourage the use of solar power.
