Beats’ project scrapped by new owners, Apple

Ever since Apple took over Beats, there was a thrill among the users about the upcoming projects. The thrill would have been in Apple too; otherwise they would not have taken over Beats for $3 billion. But before the deal, Beats was working on projects of its own. They had plans about Wi-Fi speakers, new type of headphones etc. Now, it seems that after the takeover Apple discontinued the Wi-Fi speaker projects of Beats which could have been a major competitor to Sonos and Google. It was expected that the completed Wi-Fi speakers would be so good that it could actually take away a large chunk of the market from its competitors, which is why it was also being referred to as the Sonos Killer. But as soon as Apple took over, they scraped the project and stopped any further development on that front. This news was published by Variety. A speaker that would be able to connect to Internet and play music through online streaming could have had immense potential. It was also equipped with a technology which meant that it could sense your presence and start playing the music when you walked in the room. To improve connectivity and enhance the interaction of the user with the machine, Bluetooth and NFC were provided. Bluetooth ensured that you could play the music wirelessly without attaching any cord.

However, these were not the only cool things about the speakers. It was also rumored that it would be priced around $750 which is quite reasonable considering the high end features that the speakers would have had. The real price, however, no one will ever know.

Beats has always been known for its music streaming services and headphones. This project was a step toward increasing the hardware presence of the company but got delayed repeatedly because Beats never consulted any other company for it or even hired new people. The present status of the project is unclear as many people think that Apple has totally discontinued with the project. The initial people involved in the project have been shuffled and sent to various other departments.

But other think that Apple has just put it on hold and will revive it in time as now Apple will have to start producing hardware otherwise Apple will risk losing the entire market to either Sonos or other such companies.
