With this mobile platform the two companies Jolla Ltd. and SSH Communications Security (leader in security solutions) aim to meet the demands for better privacy in communications that are increasing every day. Sailfish OS is an open mobile operating system. This independent nature of Sailfish OS will be used in the solution but with more security options that will make it more strict. Key management and encryption platform will be taken care of by SSH Communications. The project Sailfish Secure has been initiated since there doesn’t exist any European Alternatives to US based Oss such as Android that are more secure. This also gives a unique opportunity to Sailfish to enter mobile OS market through Jolla.
Sailfish Secure’s customers would mostly consist of corporations and govt. officials requiring more secure communications. Jolla will also be working on making it more affordable.
Chairman and Co-Founder of Jolla – Antti Saarnio said that it is undeniable that today a more transparent, open and most importantly not controlled by any particular industry and a secure solution for mobile communications is required. They are aiming at creating a European solution in collaboration with experts in security i.e., SSH Communications. He also gave an invitation to other companies in the industry to come and join Jolla’s initiative.
Chief Innovation Officer and Founder of SSH Communications Security – Tatu Ylönen said that there is an ever increasing need for mobile communications that are more secure and that with Jolla they will be able to meet this requirement. They were happy to join Jolla for this project which has broad applications.
Sailfish Secure provides a solution that is independent of the hardware and capable of concept adaptation i.e., it can adapt to the local needs and collaborate with local security partners. The customers will then be able to customize the solution according to the hardware platform they are using. This means there is no particular hardware configuration for Sailfish. Both the companies will be seen at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
