Birdman followed two other Hollywood related winners, about a washed up comeback bid of actor: The Artist was the bittersweet story, which won in 2012, of a silent film actor left behind apparently by the Hollywood’s transition to sound. Argo, the next year, won with its reality based account of a hostage rescue which utilized a imitation film for cover. Still, this year, no film achieved demanding mass in the year which observed all eight of the nominees of best picture, at least, leave with one Oscar.
Julianne Moore has won the best actress, as expected, for her stumbling college professor with on set early Alzheimers in Still Alice, plus Eddie Redmayne has won best actor due to his portrayal, in The Theory of Everything, of Stephen Hawking. An over the moon Mr. Redmayne said of his statuette that he would be its custodian, he would polish him. He would wait on him hand and foot.
One of the smallest films of the year, Whiplash, became one of the biggest winners of the night with only $11.3 million in ticket sales, stealing the award of editing from Boyhood and American Sniper, presumably stronger competitors. Whiplash, having a dramatic thriller set in music school, also gathered prize in the sound mixing categories and the supporting actor. The editor of Whiplash, Tom Cross, backstage marvelled that wouldn’t it be great if this movie got into Sundance? He and the director of the film, Damien Chazelle, only a little over a year ago, had been talking to each other.
In spite of an aggressive campaign which made a final minute attempt in linking the arms with the gay rights movement, The Limitation Game, had an uprising battle in all the eight categories in which it had been nominated, before ultimately snagging one for the adapted screenplay. That was a little relief for its supporters, Harvey Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein came up short last year, who has a celebrated Oscar past, when he unfortunately pulled out all the stops in favor of Philomena. Mr. Weinstein with Citizenfour, also got on the board Sunday night. On the other hand he was jus an extra player in its accession; Radius-TWC, a Weinstein Company offshoot, released the Citizenfour, which also taken care of the awards prospects of the film.
