At this point of time Facebook currently owns another messaging app, Whatsapp, which has been a huge success in its own market. After Facebook acquired Whatsapp in February, the future of it’s another messaging app, Facebook Messenger became unclear. So in order to allow the messenger to survive, Facebook has now moved all the chatting from the mobiles to the messaging app. However the chat features have been eliminated only from the iOS and Android platforms. Facebook has been notifying the users for a few months now about the changes. Even if someone does not download the Messenger app before-hand Facebook will notify them multiple times before the feature disappears.
Ever since the users moved on to the Messenger app for chatting, complaints started coming in stating that the app was intrusive. The permission required to install the app include pictures and videos. It is also stated that the app can record audio, directly call phone numbers, receive text messages and read your contacts, which is quite close to privacy breach.
In spite of all the complaints Facebook officials have stressed that the app is as well as all user data are secure and that the app will do everything from sending messages and videos, but not without your permission. But glitches could appear and personal info could leak out any time, so it is no wonder that many users are staying away from the Messenger app.
