The era of using actual land line telephones has almost come to an end. There is hardly anyone who doesn’t have a mobile phone. However, we are getting closer and closer to a day when making phone calls won’t cost you any money and they will take place solely on data connections instead of wireless phone signals. A normal call abroad to check on your loved ones or for business can cost you quite a lot. It is also easier than ever, but the only thing considered in international call is the calling rates. These rates are usually high and still you may not get the desired quality.

However if you still want to call without those high calling rates and proper quality, there are other ways. Along the lines of previously available VOIP (voice over internet protocol) software, more and more apps are being developed so that you can make international calls and sends text messages for free or a nominal fee. Although the VOIP softwares are generally paid, the apps seem to be promising and free. The list of these Apps includes the Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Libon etc. The easiest to use is Whatsapp. The app was recently acquired by Facebook and it works with almost every phone and allows you to send photos, messages, videos and make phone calls for free over a wireless network.

Apart from these Nimbuzz, Kakao Talk, Line, Skype are all available for making international calls and text messages. All these apps are designed for the same purpose but differ from each other in terms of user interface, efficiency and clarity over the call.  As more and more users sign up for these apps it is just a matter of time the cellphone carriers slash their international calling rates and come to terms with these free calling Apps.
