As of now Apple has one of the largest work forces among tech companies. It is the most valuable company in the world and right at the top in top paying companies too. Like all the peer firms Apple also admits that its workforce is not as diverse as it should be. Ever since the Silicon Valley’s boom was credited to men excluding women, blacks and Latinos, it created a trend of having more and more male employees.
However if the non-technical jobs of the company which include sales, back office etc. are to be considered then Apple seems to be doing slightly better in hiring blacks and Latinos than the other companies. The Apple workforce comprises of 11 percent Latino and 7 percent blacks right now while other firms like Google and Facebook are way behind in this comparison. Also the scarcity of women in technological jobs can be explained due to the flaws in the U.S education system. In order to take care of this Apple and other are financing efforts to steer more women and minorities to math and science in high school.
This shortage of qualified women and minority candidate explains some bias that the technology industry holds for the white and Asian men. It will still be a long road to the increased participation of women and minorities in the top paying technological jobs.
