Amazon to acquire Twitch

From an announcement that came from Amazon.com, the E-commerce giant has finalized the deal to acquire Twitch Interactive, Inc., which is the most popular live video platform among the gamers. The site reportedly had more than 15 billion minutes of videos viewed by more than 55 million visitors from around the globe. The videos on Twitch are produced by broadcasters, pro players, and individual gamers, developers, publishers, e-sports organizations, conventions and so on.

Watching and broadcasting a gameplay is loved by everyone and Twitch provides platform that brings together millions of fans who watch 1000s of videos and gaming conferences. What is more surprising is that it has been only 3 years since Twitch started. Jeff Bezos (founder and CEO, amazon.com) said that they are looking forward to provide better services to the gaming community by collaborating with the Twitch team. Emmett Shear (CEO, Twitch Interactive) said that Twitch and Amazon both have firm belief in future of video games and that would be able to create faster and better tools and services by working together. This will also help Twitch in reaching more audience. Launched in June 2011, Twitch has been focussing on live videos of gameplay. As per the agreement, all of Twitch’s outstanding shares will be acquired by Amazon for $970 million cash. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2014.
