Few weeks back you must have got the rumors of Google and Nest thinking of acquiring Dropcam. Well the plug – n – play security camera manufacturing company has just been acquired by tech giant Google. Nest was acquired by Google earlier which in turn has acquired Dropcam. The details of the deal are not out yet but it is confirmed that the deal was finalized at $555 million in cash. Now you must be wondering what company Dropcam is? They make certain different things out of which their most popular one is the Wifi enable security cams. The cost of these cameras range from $149 to $199 depending on quality of video they offer.
Best thing about these cameras is that they require very little maintenance effort. You just need to plug it in and set it up on Wifi and there you are. You can remotely check in on your cams for free, although Dropcam offers to keep an archive of the footage for a cost of $10 or $30 depending on how long you want it to be saved. Greg Duffy (founder – Dropcam) explained the move by saying that Dropcam and Nest share a similar vision of developing simpler products for making life better. According to the deal, Dropcam comes under the privacy policy of Nest. The policy also says that the data cannot be accessed by anybody without permission from the customer. According to stats from Crunchbase, till now $48 million has been raised by Dropcam.
