The Pepsi IPL 2014 encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, which was scheduled to be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Wednesday, 14 May 2014, has been shifted to the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
The decision was taken after the Kolkata Police informed the Cricket Association of Bengal and the Kolkata Knight Riders representatives, in a meeting earlier today, that they would not be in a position to provide security cover at the Eden Gardens on 14 May, owing to the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal.
The Kolkata Police have assured that they will provide the security cover for the remaining three matches, scheduled to be played in Kolkata, on 20 May, 22 May and 24 May respectively.
“I am happy that Cuttack will be hosting an additional match in the ongoing season of the Pepsi IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders will be playing an ‘away’ game in Cuttack, against Kings XI Punjab, on 11 May. KKR will then stay back in Cuttack, and play a ‘home’ game against Mumbai Indians, on 14 May. Both sides can expect the support of the spectators, and the spectators in turn can expect some fantastic cricket,” Ranjib Biswal, Chairman, IPL Governing Council, said.
