With the shutdown of GameSpy – a very popular online game hosting service, the online play of the 2K’s legacy titles is facing much interruption. Two of its windows legacy titles include the borderlands and Civilization. Players might suffer this interruption until the games are shifted to Steamworks by Valve. The games are frequently being put under temporary offline periods since may 31st. This has disturbed other gaming services also such as VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), matchmaking apart from online play. However you can go for offline play as it won’t be affected by this migration. The game titles that are being put in offline mode include:
- Civilization III
- Civilization III: conquests
- Civilization III: play the world
- Civilization IV
- Civilization IV: beyond the sword
- Civilization IV: colonization
- Civilization IV: warlords
- Borderlands
Apart from this as reported by 2K, the online support for some other titles will be permanently discontinued. The list of those titles can be found on this link. Since the start of GameSpy in 1999, it has ended its fantastic journey of 14 years. The site has done a great job in including the technical quality of cross – platform games’ pc versions in its port authority features. The closure came as a result of some business requirement of having a focused and efficient company. However you can still hear from GameSpy staff on various sites on internet and IGN.
