The US – based adults can participate in the Google glass explorer program. This club actually favored the developers but has now opened for the general public as well starting April 15. Only the US adults can join the group by paying a fee of $1,500 plus tax. This sum buys you a Google glass which is company’s most coveted and computerized eyewear. But still this has not been put under the category of consumer release. This has been scheduled later this year.
As said in Google+ post, its explorers are surgeons, bakers, rockers and moms who explore the glass with different perspectives. Previously developers were allowed at Google I/O to be a part of this program and others were asked to tweet some planned use for google glass with #ifihadglass hashtag. Now the restrictions on the entry to the club have been reduced for some time. As per the reports there is limited number of spots in the program.
According to the Forrester report a very less percent of consumers i.e., 12% would be interested in using the computerized eyewear. A rather large percentage i.e., 28% would be interested in using computerized watch. An android version for computerized watch was unveiled recently by Google. However the android wear watches are expected to be released later this year. Reportedly Apple has also been working on launching its own watch. Google glass is now being promoted as an enterprise tool. It has also initiated ‘Glass at work’ program for encouraging the developers to work on projects as to how the glass can be used in workplace. Google still has a long way to go to convince general public that such a costly glass is just not an elitist excess but more than that.
