Cricket fans! It’s time for another season of IPL which means fun and frolic once again. This time Abu Dhabi witnessed the grand opening ceremony of IPL 2014. Abu Dhabi’s minister or culture, youth and community development H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan started the ceremony with his welcome note. Next Ravi Shastri took his turn for inviting the captains of the eight IPL teams for taking vows that they will maintain the integrity of this sport.
The interim president of BCCI – IPL Sunil Gavaskar delivered his ideas of eradication corruption from cricket through his wonderful speech. He also appealed to the cricket fans to believe in the sanctity of this sport and have faith in it. Well, this was all serious business.
When it was time for entertainment, the cultures and traditions of both the nations were depicted through a beautiful light and sound show that actually showed the closeness between both of them. This was followed by some awesome performances from stars including Deepika Padukone on various Bollywood hot dance numbers. Shah Rukh Khan with his sense of humor delighted the audience and shared stage with Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Shane Watson who gave a song and guitar performance that had the masses mesmerized. The IPL gala Dinner was held in Emirates Palace where guests were of course bowled over by SRK. Brilliant fireworks marked the end of this grand evening.
