Jamie Edwards: A Thirteen Year Old Boy Performs Fusion Reaction

The process of combining two atoms to form an atom of higher atomic weight is called Fusion reaction. This is what many of us have studied in high school and we also that these reactions are performed by scientists in highly controlled conditions.

But the same fusion reaction to combine two hydrogen atoms and form a helium atom, has been performed by a thirteen year old Jamie Edwards from Lancashire on this Wednesday, to become the “youngest to perform a fusion reaction” in the world. This record was previously held by Taylor Wilson of U.S.A. who was 14 when he performed this feet. As Jamie would turn fourteen this weekend, he had to perform this experiment before then to break Taylor Wilson’s record.

Jamie says that he used all his Christmas savings money on purchasing the equipment for the Fusion experiment. His school also granted him GBP 2000 for the same.

Congrats Jamie.
