What we all know is that, Mr Sathya Nadella is the new CEO of Microsoft. What we need to know is about the set of qualities and traits which helped him reach the top. Let’s have a look at them, shall we!
He never went to premier B-schools and was also never an outstanding performer at class. There were many top executives with better academic credentials and more experience than him. But why was Mr Sathya chosen? It was not a decision taken overnight. It was taken after thinking over it for a period of several years.
Dedication, simplicity, self discipline and an ever smiling face are the traits you will find in him. He was pursuing his M.B.A. in Chicago University when he was offered a job in Microsoft at Redmond. But he did not want to give up his studies for it. So he used to go to Chicago from Redmond every weekend to complete his course and return to office on Monday. He did this for two and a half years. He still does some online courses even today and keeps on enrolling in many.
He says, ” we should never look at work as just work. If we look at it as as a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many people, we will find a purpose in life. ” such is his maturity of thinking.
when asked about leadership, he re-iterates an incident which took place during an inter- school cricket match when he was studying in Hyderabad Public School. In his own words, “When our team was bowling, we couldn’t take a single wicket even after many overs. Observing this, our captain started bowling and only after taking a few wickets, did he give me the bowling spell again. A leader should always lead from the front.”
His employees say that they can’t recollect the face of Mr Sathya without a big bright smile on it. They say that he always greets his employees and colleagues with a warm smile. Many of his neighbors didn’t even know that he was a top cadre executive in Microsoft until he was named CEO. They thought that he too was another regular employee. Such is his simplicity.
