Facebook has come out with an important change to the gender section of the profile. In order to make Facebook usage more convenient, the giant social networking site now allows members to choose custom gender options apart from male or female options.
On Thursday, Facebook announced that it is now permitting member users to pick a custom gender for their profile. The news about this new facility was delivered to the public by the Facebook Diversity Program. Earlier the social networking site only allowed for picking between male or female as their gender identity but now they have come up with a custom option to meet with the requirements of transgender community online.
The new menu with the options female, male and custom has started to appear from Thursday along with the menu to completely customize pronouns that Facebook uses to identify individuals. It is now possible for the users to pick up to ten gender different definitions. The settings could be adjusted for the gender information to appear or not appear on the visible part of the profile. Customization option for the visibility of gender information is also provided. The user can decide which of them should know their gender information and which are not. The section has been added to the Privacy Help Page. This change has for sure garnered much attention from the social networking community.
