Donald Trump speaking at CPAC 2011 in Washington, D.C.

President Trump will host the Chinese President at the Mar-a-Lago estate

The meeting comes at a time when tensions are high because of numerous factors such as deployment of the THAAD defense system by the US, the regular missile testing by North Korea etc.

According to a report by Axios, for an upcoming two day summit in April, President Donald Trump will host Chinese President Xi Jinping at his gold-plated Mar-a-Lago estate. The meeting will take place on the 6th and 7th of April and will be the first meeting between the two leaders. Though the plan hasn’t yet been finalized yet, but it is only a matter of time.

The meeting comes at a time when tensions are high because of numerous factors such as deployment of the THAAD defense system by the US, the regular missile testing by North Korea etc. Trump considers North Korea as a big security threat and he plans to come to an agreement with China so that China will rein in North Korea by taking some serious actions against them.

Significantly China can be considered as one of the only allies that North Korea has, but some recent incidents like the murder of Kim Jong Nam, the testing of missiles in Jpanese waters etc. have irritated China to no end and they have responded by putting a stop to coal imports from North Korea till the end of 2017.

The meeting will be a crucial one and will probably have topics like China’s continued building of man-made islands as well as territorial disputes in the region on the agenda. US’s long time allies Japan and South Korea aren’t very happy with China and this might be reflected in Trump’s attitude during the meet. Trade and commerce will also be on the table and up for discussion.
