President Donald Trump has been a vocal critic of the Obamacare. During his campaign, he has repeatedly promised to repeal and replace Obamacare with a better healthcare plan for the Americans. It looks like Donald Trump’s vision might come to fruition after all.
The House Ways And Means committee became the first panel to approve the Obamacare repeal bill brought by the Republicans. The approval came after nearly 18 hours of intense debate. The chamber’s Energy and Commerce committee on the other hand are throwing as many hurdles on the path of the bill as they possibly can.
The plan is a massive overhaul and it will undo most of the changes wrought by the Affordable Care Act otherwise known as Obamacare. Some of the key features of the new plan include introduction of tax credits based on age rather than income, reversal of taxes introduced in Obamacare and introducing major changes in Madicaid.
There are many uncertainties about the bill especially regarding how much it is going to cost, and the legislation has come under fire from multiple fronts including democrat lawmakers and insurers. The American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association and other hospital groups have also spoken up against it. There are even some conservative Republicans who believe the bill isn’t radical enough.
White House spokesperson Sean Spicer didn’t think the opposition from the medical community is a matter of concern. “We would love to have every group on board,” Spicer said, adding, “This isn’t about figuring out how many special interests in Washington we can get paid off. It’s about making sure that patients get the best deal, that lowers prices and brings back cost.”
