Cameo club nightclub attack in Cincinnati; 1 dead and 15 injured

Officers from Cincinnati police department informed that the incident occurred after an argument between several people.

At the Cameo club in Cincinnati city in the U.S. state of Ohio, one person was killed and 15 were wounded early Sunday morning when someone opened fire. One of the wounded is in extremely critical condition and many others are seriously injured. Officers from Cincinnati police department informed that the incident occurred after an argument between several people. The reason for the argument has not yet been discovered and the police still don’t know who were involved or who the shooter or shooters might be. But police has ruled out the possibility of a terrorist attack.

The incident happened around 1.30 am; one witness recalled that the DJ called for security at that time. Incidentally four off duty police officers were present at the club’s entrance and the parking lot providing security when the shooting took place. But they are only allowed to provide security outside the club; internal security is the club’s responsibility Police Chief Eliot Isaac said.

Even though every clubgoer has to go through a metal detector and is then searched with an electronic wand, it is apparent that quite a few people managed to sneak weapons in. Once the gunfire started, chaos broke out in the packed nightclub. Hundreds of panicked patrons fled past the wounded. Police has yet to find all the witnesses, but they are interviewing the few that they have been able to identify.

Police has said that quite a few people were involved in the shooting. 27 years old O’Bryan Spikes died in the shooting and many of the wounded were in surgery. Many of them have life threatening injuries. But most of the victims are either in stable condition in the hospital or have already been treated and discharged.

“It’s important for everyone to understand that people were just having a good time and ended up getting shot. It’s totally unacceptable.” Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley told reporters. “This is going to be a long process for us to solve this crime — crimes, plural — and heal as a community,” Cranley added.
