Rudramadevi Telugu Movie Review

Rudhramadevi is Indian historical movie that revolves around Rudrama Devi’s life who was one of the great rulers of Kakatiya dynasty and one of the few queens in Indian history who ruled. The Kakatiya Dynasty flourished in Deccan Plateau. The movie has been written as well as directed by Gunasekhar and will be released in 3D in three languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. A ban was put on other language movies being dubbed into Kannada. However, now that the ban has been lifted by the Competition Commission of India, Rudhramadevi is the first to be dubbed in to Kannada.

The cast includes Anushka Shetty as Rudrama Devi, Allu Arjun, Vikramjeet Virk, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Nithya Menen, Krishnam Raju, Catherine Tresa and Baba Sehgal. IIaiyaraaja has composed the background score for the movie. The film is due for release on 9th October in Hindi and Telugu and the Tamil version will be released on 16th October. Initially Ganusekhar considered Nayanthara, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka for the role of Rani Rudramadevi, but eventually he selected Anushka based up on her role in Arundhati. Thotta Tharani was chosen for the art direction. The budget of the movie is Rs. 80 crore i.e., USD 12 million. Gunasekhar approached Jr. NTR and Mahesh Babu for the role of Gona Ganna Reddy, but eventually Allu Arjun got the role. Neeta Lulla has designed the costumes for the movie.

The shooting of the film started at Thousand Pillar temple of Warangal on 14th February back in 2013. Vikramjeet Virk, who had played negative roles earlier, is seen playing negative role here too as Mahadeva Nayakadu. The short ended in July 2014. The official trailer came out back in March this year. This Saturday evening 3 songs of the album were released in Vishakapatnam and the other 3 were released on Sunday in Warangal. Previously movie was supposed to be releasing on 26th June but was postponed because of some technical problems. The Telangana government has exempted entertainment tax from this movie due to its historical touch. Deccan Music named the album as the best Telugu album of the month. Lyrics for all the songs have been written by Sirivennela Sitaramasastri.

The story is set in Orugallu and its Kakatiya Dynasty ruled by Raja Ganapati Devudu (played by Krishnam raju). Raja doesn’t have any male successors but a daughter Rudrama Devi. Fearing an attack from his rivals, Raja announces his daughter as Prince Rudra Devudu. Rudrama Devi is trained like warriors while keeping her identity secret. The plot takes a sharp turn when the entire kingdom comes to know that the prince is not a boy but a girl actually. What does she do now? To know you need to watch the movie.

What strikes most is the huge sets of the film and large VFX works. Anushka has played her role with a lot of dedication. This is clear from her war sequences. Second major highlight of the movie is Allu Arjun whose character has been designed well by Gunasekhar. Also the way Bunny lends a comedian touch to his character is just awesome. The narrative part of the film is really a minus point. Overall Gunasekhar has put decent effort in this movie – heavy cast, rich VFX etc.
