The Andhra Pradesh capital has managed to procure 30,000 acres of land through AP Capital Region Development Authority. However, it hasn’t been able to procure additional 3,000 acres because of the unwilling farmers. The area comprising the seed development area is 16.7 sq. km and will include the AP Legislative Assembly, High Court, Legislative Council, Secretariat, Raj Bhavan and residential area for officials. The government is starting the work on the town development from today itself.
The capital is expected to be completed by the year 2019. The SCA or the seed capital area will house about 3 lakh people. Around 7 lakh jobs are expected to be generated by the business hub in many sectors. The capital will have a CBD (Central Business District) which will be state-of-the-art facility for business. The government is to follow a transit oriented development approach and so the master plan consists of many corridors and nodes. The capital will have an integrated network consisting of metro railways covering 12 km, downtown roads (7km), Bus rapid transit systems (15 km), arterial and sub arterial roads (26 km) and collector roads (53 km).
The city area is split among the CBD, institutions, residential areas, water bodies, waterfront, parks and gardens, recreational spaces and so on. The city will be developed on the basis of sustainable development principles with many green areas. Surrounding towns will be connected to the capital region by an outer regional expressway and regional expressway. The New Delhi – Hyderabad highways will be connected via a dedicated freight corridor. National waterway 4 will be created on Wazirabad – Vijaywada – Rajamundry – Kakinada and Wazirabad – Vijayawada – Vodarevu port routes. The other places will be connected via canals and rivulets. The government is also planning to build an airport at Mangalagiri and high speed railways for five corridors.
The foundation stone for the city will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this Thursday on the eve of Dussehra. B Satish Babu, A TDP leader said, “Dussehra marks the victory of good over evil. Naidu has led the fight against evil and has ensured Andhra comes out winning against all forces opposed to our state.” The government is making every effort to make it a “world class” city and is seeking assistance from Singapore.
