According to a report for the President’s panel, which is three-person panel, approximately 41 per cent of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime and about 21 per cent of them will die because of it. Cancer not only kills people but also ruins the lives of other attached to them. Although the news comes in at a time when the work is still in its early stage, but it increases hopes of saving more lives in the near future.
The medication available at the moment for cancer works by killing the cancer, whereas the new study aims to disarm and render the cancer harmless. The experiment focuses on a protein known as PLEKHA7 that helps the healthy cells to clump together. This protein acts as a stoppage on the cells, which keeps them from multiplying over and over and lead to the formation of tumors. A research team that was led by Panos Anastasiadis managed to reset the instructions-turning off the cancer. The experiments also proved that human cells from highly dangerous bladder cancers can be made normal again. Dr. Panos, said,” Initial experiments in some aggressive types of cancer are indeed very promising. Maybe years down the road this can make a difference for someone with bladder cancer.” Dr. Panos also thinks that this new approach would be applicable for most of the cancer except the ones of brain and blood. The search for the perfect drug is still on but this study has enlightened researchers about the behaviors of cancer and would definitely help others in finding a cure someday.
