Baahubali – The Indian film set to hit over 4000 screens

New York / Entertainment Column (July 09, 2015) — No more waiting for the much hyped movie – Baahubali (English: The One With Strong Arms). The telugu language film will be released in 150 screens in Karnataka this Friday as told by K.P. Srikanth. Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, it is estimated to be most expensive movie ever made in the nation. Rumours has it that the ticket price will be more, but K.P. Srikanth said that there will be a nominal rise. The pre – release publicity of the film has generated immense curiosity among the fans. Also this is the first non – bollywood movie to be produced on such a scale. The trailer shows very strong visuals raising more excitement.

The movie revolves around two brothers who battle constantly for gaining control of an ancient kingdom. What makes the movie more exciting is its huge star cast including Prabhas, Rana Daggubatti, Tamannah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan and Anushka Shetty. Baahubali has been made in Telugu and Tamil and has been dubbed for Hindi and Malayalam. Kannada actor Sudeep who acted in Rajamouli’s Eega also appears in this movie in a small role. The film features extensive animation and thrilling war sequences. Baahubali has taken 3 years to complete and in that 120 days just for shooting war scenes. Most of the pre – production work involved building a whole different world that speaks of magnificent palaces and huge war fields.

The movie is a combo of Indian mythological war sequences and today’s advance animation and VFX. Arri Alexa XT cameras have been used for shooting in digital quality that is the sharpest. The animation and visual effects part took over a year to complete.

Since the Indian cine buffs are habituated to watching Hollywood action and war movies, Baahubali has a great challenge to meet. However the makers seem confident that the film will meet international standards. Rajamouli has always challenged the conventional thinking with his movies like Eega, Sye, Magadheera and so on. He sees Baahubali as his dream movie. Rana Daggubati said the most challenging part of the movie was shooting the elaborate and massive war scenes. The crew had its eyes on Hollywood movies like “300” that stretched the effort limit. The film has a budget of $40 million and has been produced in two parts, first of which will be released on Friday. The Tamil theatrical version is presented by UV Creations and K.E. Gnanavel Raja. The Hindi and Malayalam versions are presented by Karan Johar and Global United Media respectively. The art of the film has been designed by the national award winner Sabu Cyril and visual effects supervisor is V. Srinivas Mohan. M.M. Keeravani has composed the movie’s background score.

The movie will also be featured in BBC’s documentary “100 years of Indian Cinema”. The principal photography for the movie has been done at the Rock Gardens, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh State.
