I (Ai) Movie Review: Vikram’s Second Innings

Top director from Kollywood industry, Shankar is loved by all and is known for his big budget movies that standout from the rest. Now we have another hit I (Ai). Shankar’s previous movie “ROBO” was a huge success after which he took a break of 2 years and completed shooting Ai. Produced by Venu Ravichandran, the movie stars Amy Jackson, Vikram, Santhanam, Suresh Gopi and Upen Patel. The movie revolves around a muscle man – Lingesan (Vikram) whose father owns a gym. He later wins Mr. Tamil Nadu title. Ravi has been cast opposite to Vikram. Linges is attracted to Diya (Amy) – an advertisement model. She runs into problems with her co – model John and loses all her chances to be a successful model. Diya then decides to approach Linges to help her. He quits the dream of becoming Mr. India and shifts to China with Diya.

The director thinking that Linges is suitable for a romantic scene, asks Diya to lie to him that she has fallen in love with him. A third villain Osma Jasmine, a transgender falls in love with Linges and reveals the true story behind Diya’s love confession. Thus, he is successful in breaking them apart. Later Diya really falls for Linges which makes both Osma and John mad and they try to kill him but fail to do so. The ad becomes a huge success and the sale of the company doubles. John ultimately loses his fame.

The movie has a fourth villain too – the company’s owner. The owner of the product asks Linges to work in an ad for his Juice product to which he denies saying that it is unhealthy. He reveals the same in media which results in huge loss to the product owner. He then joins with a fifth villain to take revenge on him. They are successful in injecting a H4N1 virus called “I” in to Linges’ body. On the other side the couple is preparing for their marriage. But, slowly Linges’ health takes an ugly turn and he turns in to a hunchback losing his hair and teeth. The doctors are unable to treat him. He goes into hiding making people believe that he is dead.

Diya’s family force her into marriage with Vasudevan. In the mean time Linges gets into touch with another neuro doctor who after examining him tells that he can be cured. The Linges then goes out to kidnap Diya to prevent the marriage. But, Diya is unable to recognize him. The rest of the plot must be watched  on the big screen. the Ai’s team has worked with the Oscar winners – Weta Digital which won 5 Oscar awards for Best Visual Effects. Another partner is Rising Sun Pictures – another 2014 Oscar winner and has done visual effects for the movie. The music has been composed by two times Oscar winner – A.R. Rahman. The movie has been dubbed for 17 languages. This is Shankar’s 2nd movie with Aascar films and Vikram after the 2005 hit of Anniyan.
