The story begins and revolves around when the ex girlfriend of “Doc” comes to him saying that his current lover who is a billionaire is missing and she doubts the hand of his current lover’s wife and her boyfriend. The story turns into a psychedelic adventure with a host of wild characters like ocean surfers, street hustlers, drug addicts, Rockers and LAPD detectives in the late 60’s.
The “Doc” is a private detective who is in a relaxed state but all hell breaks loose into a hardcore action fiesta when his ex lover steps in with a compelling story about his current lover who is a billionaire business man played by Eric Roberts is being plotted by his wife and her boyfriend to put him into a mental asylum. Then with a twist of “Docs” former lady’s disappearance his character is put into a web of activities across the city. The search for his former lady love takes him into a world of love, betrayal, drugs and action.
The cast has many huge accomplished actors like Academy award winners Reese Witherspoon who plays a Defense attorney and Benicio Del Toro as a lawyer. The talented and dashing Josh Brolin is the condescending cop. The entire movie Phoenix’s performance keeps you intact and with many dark turns and surprises one has to watch this movie with a plan.
Anderson’s brilliance and boldness is seen because the movie is completely made with his style and is perfect execution of Thomas Pynchon’s master piece on screen is appreciated. This movie will surely make into the Oscar race.
