North Korea Bounces Back with Internet Links Restored After Mysterious Shutdown

North Korea has actually suffered partial internet access breakdown but they recovered following a widespread outage that occurred immediately days after the US promised to give a strong response to the attack made on Sony which led to blaming Pyongyang. Top officials of the US government from Washington have pledged that they had nothing to do with it. The US government strongly condemned the Sony cyber attacks by saying the repercussions may be visible and some may not visible. In response to this North Korea demanded an apology stating that Pyongyang was not involved and they are wrongly accused by the US.

A US based company Dyn who monitors internet infrastructure has collected loads of information and have stated that the attacks might be due to legitimate cyber attacks or even it might be due to hardware problems. The duration of the attack lasted for couple of hours from Monday to Tuesday of this week. The country went into internet darkness and then they bounced back slowly. Still officials say that it might also be due to an imminent attack from within North Korea and they might have used Chinese sources to carry out the attack.

The US officials still strongly standby their statements stating they had no relation to the cyber attack that took place on North Korea.  Reports say that the Sony attack was carried out by a group named as Guardians of Peace and they said that people will face the worst scenarios of our times if the movie “The Interview” is screened and viewed by people so due to public welfare Sony has cancelled the movie premier. A US based cloud fare company’s official has released a statement stating that the attack was carried out internally because of the outage which lasted only almost 10 hours. All the internet lines from North Korea sail through China and they have stated that they condemn the attack on Korea and stated they had no contribution to this evil deed.

North Korea’s very intense neighbor South Korea who are always at war technically and in other aspects as well have stated there were attacks on their nuclear reactors and only random data was stolen and their operations and routine were not under imminent threat but still they went to US to aid them in  investigating the attack made on them.

Internet usage in North Korea is said to be at very minimal levels when compared to countries of similar cadres like Yemen, Afghanistan and Taiwan as mentioned by the reports of Dyn. The internet usage and maintenance is strictly and confidently maintained by the Chinese company China Unicorn. Even after the outage recovery North Korean news agencies like KCNA and newspaper Rodong Sinmun and even the public relations department also was knocked out cold for a few more hours. The United States wants the Chinese to aid them in this investigation by putting down a few servers to investigate the lines to North Korea as quoted by Reuters. US officials have also put a statement saying the china should also investigate potential North Koreans who have carried out these attacks from china and that they must be apprehended and returned to North Korea.

China has also gave a counter statement saying that it opposes and condemns any type of cyber attack on any country and there is no proof for the Sony attacks linking to North Korea. China is the only friendly neighbor of North Korea and they have mutual respect and support but US have spoiled its relationship with China even in this area by a prior accusation which links China to many cyber crimes and attacks worldwide.

Hence, any country is vulnerable to cyber attacks with all operations and utilities of a country running on computers preventive security measures is a must for all countries.
