On its blog post, the company wrote that as of now nothing will change, Directr will stay the same. They will continue to help businesses create videos quickly. On the other hand in the Google+ post, YouTube stated that Directr will be joining YouTube ads team. Together they will help the advertisers to create and upload awesome videos. This deal will bring all of Directr employees over to YouTube’s video advertising group.
The most important will be that the app will be free, though it was not stated how long it will be so. The point of Google’s purchase of the app is still unclear to many, though it can be presumed that it will help the small business generate more video that Google can then monetize across its platform with more ads. The rating of Directr on the Apple store has not been very flattering; it is an average of 2-21/2 stars. It needs to be seen whether the conversion to free will improve the ratings in anyway.
This purchase of Google adds to the long list of recent purchases made by Google to increase YouTube usage by small businesses. It just needs to be seen whether the mini purchases will at all help YouTube in the long run or not.
