Traditionally people leave their assets to their children. So, being a billionair’s kid ensures that they will end up rich themselves. However, there are some people especially in the technology world who believe that their children should earn for themselves. Here is a list of people who have decided to use their considerable wealth for the good of the society:

Bill Gates

Bill Gates: The founder of Microsoft. He is one of the richest men on earth with a fortune worth $78 billion. However, his three children will only receive a miniscule portion of his asset; about $10 million each. He is the founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which has assets worth $36 billion already. His “The Giving Pledge” campaign encourages other billionaires to donate half or more of their wealth to the needy.

Steve Case: The founder of AOL is a member of the Giving Pledge. The Case Foundation founded by him works on making philanthropy more effective through the use of technology. His investment firm named Revolution invests in non Silicon Valley startups and helps them grow.

Marc Benioff: the CEO of Salesforce has already personally donated $200 million to the children’s hospital at UCSF. His SF Gives campaign is a challenge to tech companies to raise $10 million in 6 days only. He encourages companies to donate 1% of its equity, 1% of its employees’ time, and 1% of its resources to charitable causes.

Irwin Jacobs: He is the founder of Qualcomm and he and his wife Joan are avid philanthropists. They have already donated $500 million to charitable causes, and with the Giving Pledge they have promised to donate at least half of their fortune to charity.

Pierre Omidyar: He and his wife Pam are genorous donors and have already donated over $1 billion in various causes. The founder of eBay has also donated ebay shares to the Omidyar Network which is a charitable investment firm. He has signed the Giving Pledge and he and his wife are the biggest private donors to organizations that fight human trafficking.

Gordon Moore: The co-founder of Intel has already donated half of his fortune to the Moore Foundation which he founded in 2001. The foundation works on issues of environmental conservation, health measures etc. He and his wife have also signed the Giving Pledge in 2012. Besides they have also donated $1 billion to other causes.

Elon Musk: The CEO of Tesla Motors, SpaceX and Paypal is an enigmatic man, he is also a genorous philanthropist. Despite having 5 sons he has already donated much of his assets to causes like renewable energy, pediatric health etc. He has also signed the Giving Pledge. He receives a salary of $1 per year as the CEO of Tesla Motors.
