Out of a pool of 10,000 entries, five finalists have been chosen for 2014 Amazon breakthrough novel award contest. All the finalists will be awarded an Amazon Publishing deal and the grand prize winner will receive a $50,000 publishing deal. The other four will get a publishing contract and $15,000 advance. The grand prize winner will be chosen by Amazon customers through voting.
To get to the five finalists, Amazon Editors, Amazon Vine Reviewers, Publishers Weekly staff, and a panel of Amazon Publishing judges sorted through 10,000 entries and shortlisted the five finalists after four rounds of judging. General Fiction A Pledge of Silence by Flora Solomon, Mystery/Thriller The Dead Key by D.M. Pulley, Romance The Bluestocking and the Rake by Norma Darcy, Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror The Mengele Effect by Chuck Grossart, and Young Adult Fiction: Seashell, Stork and Apple Tree by Carrie Anne Noble are the chosen five.
This contest is a great opportunity for new writers as all the entries have a shot at publishing and are judged on the basis of merit. And they have a shot at getting their work published without waiting on the whims of the publisher. Amazon started its journey in 1995 and Amazon Publishing is its publishing arm. This is the 7th year they are hosting this contest. CreateSpace which is an Amazon company has a community to keep the entrants in the contest notified about every round of the contest and the results.
