Tuft &Needle Wants to Change Your Views About the Mattress You Sleep On

Tuft & Needle was created because of two friends’ shared frustration over buying mattresses. John-Thomas Marino and Daehee Park were college friends and they went on to work together at a Silicon Valley company. When they started their career, these two software engineers probably couldn’t envision being mattress manufacturers even in their wildest dreams. But all that changed when right after marriage, John-Thomas and his wife went out mattress shopping. The insistent salespersons kept pushing them into buying a mattress with a big price tag. So, after hours of looking from one store to another and evading overzealoussales people, they ended up shelling out $3,300 for a memory foam mattress with numerous features. But despite paying such a high price, the mattress wasn’t as comfortable as one would expect. When the couple tried to return the mattress and get a refund they found that the return policy was so convoluted that it made returns nearly impossible.

Disgruntled, John-Thomas spoke to his friend and colleague Daehee about the mattress fiasco. Daehee also had a similar experience in the past and the two friends were completely fed up with the glaring lack of transparency in the mattress industry. They founded Tuft & Needle in 2013 with the hope of bringing transparency and clarity into the mattress industry. The company isbasedin Phoenix, Arizona, and their mattresses are sold throughout all of America. The mattresses created by Tuft & Needleuse quality materials from various parts of the country.

The fabric used in the mattresses is supplied by a textile mill in the Carolinas that has been in business for 90 years. The foam for the mattresses is poured and cut in the United States. The mattresses are put together and sewn in South California after which they are delivered to the clients directly. This direct distribution plan to customers cuts out the middleman, and Tuft and Needle passes on those savings to its customers. The company uses neither memory foam nor latex; instead they use a custom foam material made exclusively for Tuft & Needle.

According to Consumer Reports and Amazon.com, Tuft & Needle mattresses are perfectly balanced; they are neither too soft nor too hard, which allows users to sleep in utmost comfort. The mattresses have only two layers, allowing for more airflow and adding to the comfort level of the mattresses.
