Nadal briefly concluded the hopes of Novak Djokovic to enter the capstone of professional tennis with a 3–6, 7–5, 6–2, 6–4 victory in the French Open of 2014. Nadal expressed how important it was for him to win the second set. He, however, mentioned that this historic record-breaking is not his motivation source; he would rather follow his own path and count the wins after his career is over.
Nadal received an amount of €1,650,000 as the first prize after he emerged as the first man in the history of tennis to score nine titles in a single major championship. He has an overall record of 14–6 in the Grand Slam finals.
Djokovic, who ended runner-up to Nadal, spoke about the impressive win of his contender. He had been on the pursue to conclude a career Grand Slam with the Roland Garros Crown. He had been runner-up to Nadal in the 2012 title match as well. During the trophy ceremony, he was given a long standing ovation.
